OVERVIEW:
The maintenance crew performs tasks involving physical labor throughout the Farms. This position will require you to operate a variety of hand and power tools and may clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, build, and position forms for concrete excavations, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. The position may require you to assist workers.
.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in various construction projects, perform manual work in preparation for concrete projects as assigned.
- Operate jackhammers and drills to break up concrete or pavement.
- Places consolidate and protect cast-in-place concrete or masonry structures,
- Shovel cement and other materials into portable cement mixers; and mix, pour and spread concrete.
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Smooth and finish freshly pour cement or concrete, using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered cement finishing tools. Use concrete finishing tools to finish cast-in-place concrete ditches and tie-ins. This will include the use of Fresno, jointers, and hand tools.
- Spray material such as water, sand, steam vinyl, paint, or concrete cure through hoses to clean coat, or steal surfaces.
- Build a position form for pouring concrete, and dismantle forms after use, using saws, hammerers, nails, or bolts.
- Dig ditches or trenches for laying pipe, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatics, and rakes.
- Load unload and identify building materials, machinery, and tools and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifics.
- Help craft workers, such as carpenters, finishers, and operators.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrated ability to work in a construction environment.
- Extremely proficient in using hand and power tools.
- Physically dexterous to lift and handle heavy objects.
- Competent at performing routine manual labor tasks.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Proven ability to understand and execute written instructions.
- Able to work in a team environment.
- Well versed in maintenance and cleaning tasks
- Demonstrated ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Some experience operating a forklift.
- Knowledge of handling hazardous materials and industry waste
- Ability to perform duties effectively in confined spaces.
Ability to:
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Use hand tools as required.
- Climbs or descends steps repeatedly or continually over time to enter and exit equipment cabs.
- Work around herbicides, insecticides, and fertilizers.
- Travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
- Move objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less). Work under hazardous conditions where physical danger exists due to mechanical equipment.
- Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- Work long hours and weekends.
- Communicate orally with co-workers in face-to-face one-on-one settings or using a telephone.
- Work cooperatively with other GRF employees.
- Understand and carry out oral instructions given for tasks to be performed.
- Ability to work long hours and weekends.
- Work at heights greater than 10 feet.
- Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be physically capable of operating motorized farm equipment, possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.
- Must agree to maintain a Drug Free workplace as a condition of employment with Gila River Farms.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Minimum of three (3) months experience working in an agriculture environment preferably in the maintenance, care, and harvest of citrus and olive trees.
